Artist Statement

From the beginning of my time studying and practicing art, my work has explored the nuance of Black people. I work in painting, photography, and collage, utilizing a wide range of materials like oil paint, acrylic, oil pastels, charcoal, graphite, as well as film and digital photography and found imagery as well. In refining my voice as an artist I can say it was never my intention to make Black people my subject matter, but the more I researched, the more I noticed the void of Black representation within the canon of art and art history. The subjects and iconography within my work consists of the nuance and norms of those regularly excluded from fine art.
